041916-- Lecture -- Laboury, Dimitri

The lecture will outline some of the main results of a project funded by a Research Incentive Grant of the National Foundation for Scientific Research of Belgium (F.R.S. – FNRS) and devoted to the study of the painters responsible for the decoration of private tombs in the Theban Necropolis during the 18th dynasty, their techniques, practices, work organisation, employability and relations to their patrons. It will start by addressing the often skirted issue of art and artists in Ancient Egypt, before analysing the various Egyptological data as well as new methodological strategies that allow us to study and track down those artists in their social but also individual identities.
