Recent PhD Graduate Receives Coveted Postdoc at Brown University

Recent graduate, Levi Thompson, receives 2017 – 2018 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Brown University’s Pembroke Center.

Dr. Thompson is the Artemis A.W. and Martha Joukowsky Postdoctoral Fellow at Brown University’s Pembroke Center and a member of the Pembroke Seminar organized by Leela Gandhi on the topic “The Cultures of Pacifism.” Along with participating in the weekly Seminar, Levi is continuing to pursue research begun during his time at UCLA with a project titled “An Iraqi Poet and the Peace Partisans: Transnational Pacifism and the Poetry of Badr Shākir al-Sayyāb” and teaching a course called “Framing Gender in Middle Eastern Cinema.”

Levi worked on Arabic literature at UCLA under the supervision of Professor Nouri Gana.
