The Jewish Studies Program congratulates Executive Committee member Jacqueline Vayntrub, Associate Professor of Hebrew Bible, on her appointment with tenure at the Yale Divinity School and on the recent publication of her second book, Body Language: Voice, Embodiment, and Textuality in the Hebrew Bible (Yale University Press, 2026).
Recognized as a leader in the field of biblical studies, Vayntrub’s work is distinguished for its attention to the material and embodied dimensions of biblical texts. In 2019, she published Beyond Orality: Biblical Poetry on its Own Terms (Routledge: 2019). She is currently conducting research on how biblical authors conceptualized textual transmission, is writing a commentary on Ecclesiastes, and recently completed editing a special multi-author journal issue Theorizing Transmission in Biblical Literature. She serves as editor for three series: Studies in Cultural Contexts of the Bible, the Library of Hebrew Bible and Old Testament Studies, and the International Critical Commentary. She serves as Coordinator of ARCHAIA, Yale’s program for the study of global antiquity.
