Graduate Seminar in Armenian Studies: Women During and After the Velvet Revolution in Armenia

Dr. Gohar Shahnazaryan is Director of the Yerevan State University Center for Gender and Leadership Studies (www.ysu.am/gender) and Co-Director of the Women’s Resource Center NGO (www.womenofarmenia.org) in Armenia. She holds a PhD in Sociology. Currently Dr. Shahnazaryan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Sociology at YSU. She was a visiting scholar at the School of Public Affairs at Arizona State University and at the Institute of Slavic, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies at UC Berkeley on an Open Society Institute Fellowship. For the past ten years Shahnazaryan has coordinated a number of large-scale projects on women and gender issues (women’s leadership, development of referral mechanisms for survivors of gender based violence, educational projects on women’s rights, women and peace building, the feminist movement in Armenia, etc), and participated in various international, regional, and local conferences, trainings, and workshops on women’s rights and gender equality. She is an author of more than twenty publications on gender issues in Armenia.
