UCLA Pourdavoud Center for the Study of the Iranian World seeks applications for an Academic Coordinator to serve as Assistant Director to lead and coordinate the Center’s administrative, research and scholarly programs and initiatives. The position is full time and would begin November 1, 2019.
Under the supervision of the Director of the Pourdavoud Center, the Academic Coordinator will have responsibilities in four broad areas: (1) coordination of research programs and initiatives within the Pourdavoud Center during the regular academic year and summer, including but not limited to publications, conferences (including international conferences), web-based research projects and database development; (2) strategic communication, outreach, and planning for events, programs, and initiatives for the Pourdavoud Center, for an audience that includes scholars, funders, donors, students and the general public; (3) management of the administrative infrastructure within the Pourdavoud Center, which includes supervision of a full-time Administrative Analyst; and (4) fundraising strategies, which include donor cultivation and stewardship, identification of funding opportunities, and proposal development.
More specifically, the incumbent coordinates program and event scheduling and management, research administration support, and oversight of one professional staff; coordinates meetings and communication with the Faculty Advisory Committee; collaborates with the director, other program leaders, and outside partners and scholars to facilitate the planning of research projects, oversee publication production, organize events, identify funding opportunities, and expand awareness of programs and initiatives both on- and off-campus. The incumbent will also manage the Pourdavoud Center’s global outreach, which includes the creation and maintenance of an international academic network. The incumbent takes the lead in branding/marketing programs and initiatives, including managing the Pourdavoud Center website as well as coordinating social media outreach. The incumbent also advises the Director and support staff on relevant University and sponsor rules and regulations, establishes appropriate courses of action, monitors progress, recommends program changes, and oversees the process for adjustments and/or revisions. The incumbent also engages in data retrieval and analysis for the purposes of reporting and strategic planning, as well as outreach and funding appeals for programs and initiatives. Finally, the incumbent will help initiate, coordinate and co-write proposals to funding agencies to gain sponsorship for programs and initiatives.
The successful candidate must have a PhD; Master’s degree with relevant experience may be considered. Must have demonstrated knowledge of issues in university-level research; experience working with academic and research policy and programs at a large public research university; experience working on programs and/or services for graduate and undergraduate students; skills in information retrieval and data management; demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively in programs and activities involving faculty, staff, and students; interpersonal skills to interact effectively with persons of differing social, educational, economic and cultural backgrounds; the ability to be flexible and pay attention to detail while keeping in mind the overall mission of the Pourdavoud Center.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Position salary range is $60,790 to $66,608/year.
Position remains open until filled. This is a full-time (100% time) position, with a projected November, 2019 start date.
