Simone Salmon, graduate student in Ethnomusicology and student in Dr. Beyza Lorenz’s second-year Turkish class, has won the 2019 James W. Redhouse Prize for Best Progress in Turkish. She will use Turkish for her doctoral research on Sephardic music in the Ottoman Empire. The prize, which is prestigious and nomination-only, was established by the Turkish Studies Association in 1991, and four such prizes continue to be available annually, two for each of two regions in North America, designated as East and West.
Congratulations, Simone!
