The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures is proud to announce the success of our Dr. Michael Cooperson’s recent book, Impostures (NYU Press 2020). A groundbreaking translation of a celebrated work of Arabic literatures, Impostures follows the roguish Abū Zayd al-Sarūjī in his adventures around the medieval Middle East.

Since its publication, Impostures has received numerous accolades. The Wall Street Journal lists Impostures as one of the Top Ten Books of 2020. Impostures was also a finalist for the AAP PROSE award, which recognizes the very best in professional and scholarly publishing by celebrating the authors, editors, and publishers whose landmark works have made significant advancements in their respective fields of study each year.

Impostures is also shortlisted for the Sheikh Zayed book award. More wonderful reviews for the book can be found here, including a particularly insightful analysis from the LA Review of Books.
