When is the deadline to apply? When will I be notified if I am able to participate?
Expression of interest forms, which we are asking for in place of applications, were originally requested by February 7th, but we have extended the deadline to February 21st by 8:00 pm eastern standard time. You’ll then be notified sometime in early March.
What if I've never taken a class on ancient Egypt before?
Not a problem! We encourage anyone with a passion for Egypt, any part of the ancient world, or larger disciplines like History, Anthropology, or Art History to apply.
How will the program be impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic? What precautions will the program be taking?
We are confident in our ability to hold a safe program on UCLA’s campus this summer. The class will be small, and there are plenty of larger seminar rooms on campus. UCLA requires indoor masking and proof of vaccination status to take part in the program. In addition, UCLA offers 2 complimentary COVID tests per week. We know the situation is unpredictable, and the program will keep participants updated as new changes in policy occur.
Do I have to be a student currently enrolled in an HBCU to apply?
Yes, at the moment the program is unfortunately limited only to students currently enrolled in HBCUs. For a list of HBCUs, please see

What does the program cost?
Nothing! Participants will have their airfare paid for and will receive a stipend as well as coverage of their room and board during the entire duration of the program. See Specifics link above for more details
