How to apply

Any student currently enrolled at any HBCU is eligible to participate in the program. Preference may be given to sophomores and juniors, but seniors and currently enrolled freshmen are also encouraged to express interest. In order to be considered, please fill out the expression of interest form, which can be found below.

Participants should have excellent academics, a passion for ancient Egypt or the ancient world in general, interest in conducting cutting edge academic research, and a commitment to increasing diversity in academia and challenging existing Egyptological opinions and assumptions.

The form below consists of some basic questions as well as two, longer questions. In addition, we ask that you upload an unofficial transcript and provide the name of one faculty member who can serve as a reference.

Please note the deadline to be considered for our summer 2022 cohort has been extended to February 21, 2022  at 8pm EST. We will get back to you in early March 2022.

  • These questions are intentionally open-ended so we can hear as much about you and your interests as possible. Please upload your answers as a doc(x) or pdf. Your answer to each question should likely be between a long paragraph and a full, single-spaced page in length. 1. Please explain your interest in the summer program at UCLA and what you hope to gain from the experience. 2. Tell us about your interest in and encounters with Ancient Egypt.
